We have chosen Ida Mate as a name, since it refers to the minoan divine mother that was worshiped in the holy mountain of Ida and was the protector of the harvest and the agricultural goods.
Farming, gathering and grinding is strictly handmade without the use of mechanical means and according to the Biodynamic Farming Calendar. Harvesting is always performed when the moon is full.
Our fields are located next to Natura defined forests and we use, exclusively, organic methods to fight parasites with the use of insects, that we host in special constructions, insects hotels, we provide for them.
Flowers and leaves are dried at the same day of the harvest in our 120 years old house in the village.
Ida-Mate is a name found in Linear A, the undeciphered non-Indo-European language
of Bronze Age Crete, thought to be a name of the Goddess as Mother Ida,
Mountain Mother.
We created a series of ten products with unique features such as: small scale production, organic farming, full moon harvesting, handpicked only, use of natural predators, free of pesticide use.
